Featured on this post is our 5 year old who’s making this recipe (with supervision) because it’s that simple! We see this recipe as a quick and simple kid’s recipe for snacks, or as a fun homeschool project!

How To Make Spelt Crackers
Yields approx. 2-3 trays of crackers (50-75 crackers)
Dry Ingredients:
4 cups freshly milled Spelt flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
Optional seasonings:
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp Italian seasoning
2 tbsp sesame seeds
1 tbsp nutritional yeast
Wet ingredients:
1/2 cup grapeseed oil
3/4 to 1 cup water
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit
- In a small bowl, start by mixing all the dry ingredients and set aside
- Add grapeseed oil and mix well
- Add water and mix until you get a flaky dough
- Switch to using your hands to knead the dough, incorporating all the leftover flour until it comes together into a smooth dough ball
- Cover and let rest for about 5 minutes
- Split the dough into quarters, roll the dough out into a 1/8 inch thick or as thin as you like
- Cut into square shapes or whatever shapes your kids would like. Get creative! This is where your kids’ imagination can run wild.
- Using a fork, poke holes in them as much or as little as you’d like to prevent puffing.
- Place each separate cracker on a lined baking sheet, spaced about 1 cm apart (they won’t spread)
- Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes depending on how thick your cracker is or how big or small you make them.
- Let cool completely and transfer into an airtight container and enjoy!
- Rinse and repeat with the rest of the dough until you’re completely out of dough.
